On
our travels this year we came across several interesting art projects
in the Creuse region so we have added this page with photos and
details about the artists. The church at Sous Parsat was painted by Gabriel Chabrat in the 1980's with scenes from the old and new testaments as well as modern stained glass windows. ![]() Not much further north between Gargilesse-Dampierre and Argenton-sur-Creuse lies the small village of Le Menoux where another church interior was decorated in the 1970's by the Bolivian painter Jorge Carrasco. Here the patterns are more abstract with brightly coloured swirls and circles all over the walls and ceilings. Both these churches are open most days and can be visited with just a request for a donation for their upkeep. ![]() On the same theme but going back to the twelfth century is the crypt of the interesting Romanesque church at Gargilesse Dampierre which is decorated with amazing frescos dating from the XII to XV centuries. These can be visited at any reasonable time but check with the local tourist office. ![]() |
